Description

The accepted name Rhipsalis trigonoides (Doweld) N. Korotkova was published in Willdenowia 51: 265. 1937.

The geographic range is Brazil (Santa Catarina, São Paulo, Paraná) found at elevations of 0-800 meters with an endangered status of least concern.

Rhipsalis trigonoides is classified in the subgenus Calamorhipsalis.

Observed growing as an epiphyte. Overall habit is pendant, branches are monomorphic (single stem shape) and acrotonic (stems form from the tips of previous stems).

Stems are 3 alternating or semi to alternating angled, bristles are absent. Main stems are determinate (seasonal growth is about the same length), 3cm-10cm x 1cm-2.54cm.

Flowers are rotate: sub-patent, patent or reflexed (wheel shaped: partial to wide open to reflexed), unreported x 2cm. Petals from 7 to 10, sepals 3. Inner petals are white, light-yellow, peach or pink, outer petals are white, peach, pink, purple or red. Stamen are white, from 55 to 70. Stigma lobes from 4 to 6. Flower ovary is obconical, 0.3cm x 0.35cm.

Flowering position on the stem is lateral and the flower orientation in relation to the stem is oblique. Does repeat flowering per areole. A maximum of 2 flowers were reported at a single areole. Areole position in the stems is deeply immersed (flower ovary is partially or fully hidden in the stems during bud development). Trichomes or wool is dense at the areoles after flowering.

Unripe fruit is green or red. Ripe fruit is globose; red or purple, 0.26cm-0.4cm x 0.8cm-1cm.

Other notable features:
